Fable by Adrienne Young
Adrienne Young is one of my favorite authors as of late. The cover of one of her latest YA books, Fable, recently caught my eye.
“Welcome to a world made dangerous by the sea and by those who wish to profit from it. Where a young girl must find her place and her family while trying to survive in a world built for men. Fable takes you on a spectacular journey filled with romance, intrigue, and adventure.” (Goodreads Summary)
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The Night Circus is a fantasy page-turner that will transport you to a magical circus. It’s a bit slow to start, but the beautiful storyline makes up for that.
“Two starcrossed magicians engage in a deadly game of cunning in the spellbinding New York Times bestseller that captured the world’s imagination.” (Goodreads Summary)
A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik
A great pick for dark academia fans!
“A Deadly Education is set at Scholomance, a school for the magically gifted where failure means certain death (for real) — until one girl, El, begins to unlock its many secrets.” (Goodreads Summary)
A Shadow in the Ember by Jennifer L. Armentrout
You can’t go wrong with any of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s books. She is the queen of fantasy (right next to Sarah J. Maas.)
“Born shrouded in the veil of the Primals, a Maiden as the Fates promised, Seraphena Mierel’s future has never been hers. Chosen before birth to uphold the desperate deal her ancestor struck to save his people, Sera must leave behind her life and offer herself to the Primal of Death as his Consort.” (Goodreads Summary)
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
“There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”
It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.
Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her. (Goodreads Summary)
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
“There are few worlds more richly imagined than Tolkien’s Middle Earth. Readers would get caught up just in his exquisitely imaginative details if it weren’t for the nonstop adventure; it’s a perfect balance. Add to that a wonderful main character — the hairy-footed little hobbit who truly triumphs — and you have the perfect fantasy-adventure. This is how it’s done.” (Goodreads Reader)
The Dutch House by Ann Patchett
“At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves.” (Goodreads Summary)
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
“A richly inventive novel about a centuries-old vampire, a spellbound witch, and the mysterious manuscript that draws them together.” (Goodreads Summary)
Educated by Tara Westover
This book should be on everyone’s must-read list. I anticipate Educated becoming a classic.
“Tara Westover was 17 the first time she set foot in a classroom. Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, she prepared for the end of the world by stockpiling home-canned peaches and sleeping with her “head-for-the-hills bag”. In the summer she stewed herbs for her mother, a midwife and healer, and in the winter she salvaged in her father’s junkyard.” (Goodreads Summary)
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
“Galaxy “Alex” Stern is the most unlikely member of Yale’s freshman class. Raised in the Los Angeles hinterlands by a hippie mom, Alex dropped out of school early and into a world of shady drug dealer boyfriends, dead-end jobs, and much, much worse. By age twenty, in fact, she is the sole survivor of a horrific, unsolved multiple homicide. Some might say she’s thrown her life away. But at her hospital bed, Alex is offered a second chance: to attend one of the world’s most elite universities on a full ride. What’s the catch, and why her?” (Goodreads Summary)
