Last week, Noah and I made the twenty-four-hour drive across seven states as we made the move to Colorado. Fort Collins, Colorado has been in our minds since late 2018 when we first started discussing moving. I clearly remember sitting at a coffee shop in Asheville dreaming and brainstorming, where we would like to live. We made two lists, a “realistic” one and an “unrealistic” one. Some of our realistic choices included Chattanooga and Asheville, whereas Colorado was quickly added to the unrealistic potential moves. If it weren’t for my Dad encouraging us to go after what we really wanted, I don’t think we would have moved here. His words echoed in my head long after our conversation ended.
“If you don’t do it now because it’s not easy, when will you do it?”
It’s funny to think back on that memory. Deep down, Noah and I both knew we wanted to live in Colorado. But fear and doubt quickly made us think that it was an unrealistic choice. I can’t put into words how thankful I am that we have friends and family that encouraged us to not settle for less.
Now, six months later, I’m living in one of the most beautiful places with my best friend, and together we’re creating the life we’ve always dreamed of.
