Last month, I headed to Canada with my mom and sisters on a family vacation.
We flew into Rochester, NY and drove through Toronto and Montreal. Though the cities are only five hours apart, they are drastically different. My sister, Shelby was in charge of planning our time in Toronto, and she did not disappoint. We ate, drank, and shopped at some of the most memorable restaurants, cafes, and markets.
We walked everywhere, most days averaging six miles or so. It seems that walking is not only one of the primary forms of transportation in Toronto but also the best way to immerse yourself in the culture and experience city life. I’ve created a guide based on our time in Toronto with all of our favorite stops and must sees. Hope you like it!
We stayed at this Airbnb, and it was such a convenient location. Virtually everything is within walking distance: coffee shops, trendy cafes, healthy eateries, and shopping.
Kensington Market
Located in the heart of Toronto, Kensington Market is a vibrant and diverse neighborhood filled with vintage shops, organic grocery stores, and tasty street food. We spent an afternoon milling around through the shops. I recommend stopping in 4 Life Natural Foods to pick up some of their fresh baked desserts and pastries.
The Distillery District
The pedestrian-only Distillery District, set in quaint buildings that once housed a large whiskey distillery. Its cobblestone streets are lined with indie restaurants, bars, and boutiques. They draw crowds near and far.
St. Lawrence Market
This local market has vendors selling everything from fresh produce to baked goods. We picked up some blackberries and baklava as a quick snack on our way back from the Distillery District. There are a couple of blocks from each other, so I would suggest visiting them on the same day.
Pai
This is literally the BEST Thai food I have ever had! We shared the Pad Thai, Panang Beef Curry, and Khao Pad Thamada. If you visit Toronto you HAVE to eat here.
Sweet Jesus
Sweet Jesus is an ice-cream chain that was started in Toronto and now stretches across Canada. Their soft serve is topped with different crumbles, sauces, and candies. A sugar overload. I got the vegan coconut cream with toasted coconut, and Callie got the vanilla soft serve with cotton candy.
Toronto proved herself to be a buzzing, beautiful, clean, and multicultural city. Though we only spent two days here, it had a lasting effect. I could see myself coming back in the future to explore more.
