The Guest List by Lucy Foley
My most recent read is The Guest List. Think of a new age Agatha Christie novel. Full of suspense, clues, and murder.
“The bride ‧ The plus one ‧ The best man ‧ The wedding planner ‧ The bridesmaid ‧ The body.”
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
“Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.”
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
You can’t beat an Agatha Christie novel. This is one of my favorites. If you haven’t read it yet, what are you waiting for?
“First, there were ten—a curious assortment of strangers summoned as weekend guests to a little private island off the coast of Devon. Their host, an eccentric millionaire unknown to all of them, is nowhere to be found. All that the guests have in common is a wicked past they’re unwilling to reveal—and a secret that will seal their fate. For each has been marked for murder.”
House of Earth and Blood (Cresent City Book 1) by Sarah J. Maas
Sarah J Maas is one of my all-time favorite authors. I’ve read two of her other series A Court of Thorns and Roses and Throne of Glass. This is her latest release and it did not disappoint. The Cresent City series might be my favorite series, we’ll have to see after book 2 and 3 come out!
“Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life—working hard all day and partying all night—until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She’ll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.”
The Cuckoos Calling by J.K. Rowling
The Cuckoo’s Calling is a 2013 crime fiction novel by J. K. Rowling, published under the pseudonym, Robert Galbraith. I listen to this on audible and got sucked into the story.
“After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: His sister, the legendary supermodel Lula Landry, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.”
The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn
I read this book in a single day last fall. That’s how good it was. I couldn’t go to bed without knowing the ending.
“Anna Fox lives alone, a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, and their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble and its shocking secrets are laid bare.”
The Dutch House by Ann Patchett
“At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves.”
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
This book was published in June but I’ve already heard so much about it. Hence why I put this book on hold at my local library. How could I resist a gothic suspense novel set in 1950s Mexico with a cover like that? Let me know in the comments if you’ve already read it!
“An isolated mansion. A chillingly charismatic aristocrat. And a brave socialite drawn to expose their treacherous secrets. . . . From the author of Gods of Jade and Shadow comes a terrifying twist on classic gothic horror” (Kirkus Reviews)
Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin
As soon as I saw this review from Sarah J. Maas I added Serpent & Dove to my cart. Anything recommended by her has got to be killer.
“A brilliant debut, full of everything I love: a sparkling and fully realized heroine, an intricate and deadly system of magic, and a searing romance that kept me reading long into the night. Serpent & Dove is an absolute gem of a book.” —Sarah J. Maas, #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Court of Thorns and Roses series.
Olive, Again by Elizabeth Strout
“The iconic Olive struggles to understand not only herself and her own life but also the lives of those around her in the town of Crosby, Maine. Whether with a teenager coming to terms with the loss of her father, a young woman about to give birth during a hilariously inopportune moment, a nurse who confesses a secret high school crush, or a lawyer who struggles with an inheritance she does not want to accept, the unforgettable Olive will continue to startle us, to move us, and to inspire moments of transcendent grace.”
