This past weekend my friends and I planned a weekend road trip to Destin, Fl. We booked our Airbnb, packed up for forty degrees beach weather and hit the road.
The best part of the trip was getting to know India and John. It was the little moments like making homemade vegan pancakes for dinner or freezing our butts off while we took paddle boards out on the bay. I’m really glad that we didn’t plan the whole weekend out and went with the flow instead.
Homemade vegan blueberry pancakes for dinner!
Apparently I was a little excited to eat these panackes..
Exploring the Jetties, one of my favorite moments on the trip.
Noah lived in Fort Walton (which neighbors Destin) so he took us to some of his favorite local spots like Burrito del Sol.
I had the Baja Shrimp Tacos and let me tell you… I could eat a basket of these.
Of course we had to check out the new bouldering gym in Destin. Rock Out features 16ft bouldering walls, a laid back vibe and plenty of training equipment.
Paddle boarding in wetsuits because it was 40 degrees.
This year I wanted to be more intentional with planning weekend/ day trips to get out of the same old daily routine. It doesn’t need to be extravagant or expensive. It can be quite the opposite. The highlight of this weekend was being in the company of great friends and learning that the simplest of days can sometimes be the ones you remember the most.

Hello 2018! | Forest Tourist
[…] I also went on a road trip to Destin Florida with my boyfriend John, my roommate Brooke, and her boyfriend Noah. This was my first time going on a trip with friends that didn’t involve sleeping in a tent and climbing rocks. Don’t get my wrong, I love camping, but the trip to Destin reminded me that there is more to traveling with friends than the outdoors, and I can’t wait for more trips in the future. I’ll definitely make a post about Destin soon, but if you can’t wait until then you can read about it on Brooke’s blog, The Beauty of Traveling. […]
