Talloween is an annual Tallahassee Halloween bike race where participants bike 10+ miles with crazy checkpoints to complete. What a better way to spend a Friday night with friends? Last October I participated in Tallahassee’s Talloween along with fifteen of my rock climbing friends. Whew, what a night! I ended up singing in a rock band, watching my roommate get a new tattoo, taking a shot to complete a checkpoint, and having the time of my life because I chose to do something I wasn’t entirely comfortable with.
Our route from Talloween
The funny thing is.. I’m about as comfortable on a bike as I am playing basketball. (I’m 5’2 btw and as you might have guessed, awkward as hell playing basketball.) I’m still reveling in how I managed to be convinced to do a bike race at night only a month after biking on the road for the first time… Noah was a big part of persuading me to do this race. He recently has gotten really into biking, and I love being able to support him and do active things together as a couple. Talloween became a great reason to push myself out of my comfort zone and try something new.
More about Talloween
Now, three months after Talloween I ride my bike to the Rock Gym, to campus to eat Krishna and wouldn’t hesitate to do another bike race.
Push yourself; you’re capable of more than you think you are. And who knows, you might find a new hobby along the way!
