Over New Year’s Noah and I journeyed to Red Rock Canyon, Las Vegas. We rented an Airbnb in Las Vegas and spent a week climbing with two couples from Colorado. I’ve always wondered why so many climbers live in Las Vegas, but after realizing they have world-famous boulders in their backyard I understand why.
As you may have seen from previous blog posts I’ve traveled to some pretty amazing places like Moab; Fontainebleau, France; and The Red River Gorge to climb. But after this trip, Southern Nevada may top the list. The contrast between the red rocks and blue sky was breathtaking. Every day we spent 10-30 minutes hiking out to the bouldering spots. I often stopped to admire the canyon’s sheer beauty (and catch my breath.) Noah took photos throughout the week and they truly capture the uniqueness of Red Rock Canyon.
If you ever have the chance to visit this area in Southern Nevada, even if you’re not a climber, it’s worth the stop!
Natasha’s Highball | V2
Located in Black Velvet Canyon, Natasha’s Highball is an ultra-classic. Standing at over 25+ feet this boulder stands out from the rest. The first few moves are the crux and you can cruise through the rest on jugs. As someone who has a fear of heights (or maybe had?) I was pretty proud of myself for completing this climb.
Wet Dream | V12
Sam (pictured below) sent Wet Dream, V12 on our last day in Red Rocks. This problem is also in Black Velvet Canyon just around the corner from Natasha’s Highball.
25 Cents | V5
Have you ever seen a more unique looking boulder? These candy stripes on 25 Cents called to me. Though I didn’t complete the last two moves on this problem I plan to revisit it in the future!
